Old Gray Cat for Hammered Dulcimer - Robert G. H. Miller
Old Gray Cat for Hammered Dulcimer - Robert G. H. Miller
Here’s a fun arrangement of the Scottish tune Old Gray Cat. Play along as the cat scampers through a variety of rhythms, harmonies, and meters!
This is an arrangement of the Scottish tune Old Gray Cat. Though it starts out fairly traditional, I had fun playing with the various rhythms and harmonies that make up this arrangement. Shifting into 5/4 time for the final time through the tune adds some extra pep, and utilizing the pedals really makes some of the rhythms pop. The cat even joins in with a jolly meow at the end of the piece!
This is a good arrangement for practicing some double bounces on the sixteenth notes to help maintain the tempo. I’ve given some suggestions for where I use them, but feel free to try them out wherever it makes sense for you. I have added a few notes at the end regarding the pedal markings I put into the music.
The range of this song is from D2 to E6.
