This is sheet music for the first movement from Cello Suite No. 1 by J.S. Bach, the Prelude, arranged for 15/14 hammered dulcimer. This is a fun movement to play and is by far the most recognizable piece from the suite. The steady sixteenth notes throughout most of the piece feel like they gently carry one forward through swells of tension and release to the dramatic ending.

The music is the same as the original only raised an octave to fit the range of the hammered dulcimer.

Included with this arrangement are two versions of this movement from Bach’s Cello Suite #1. One is a blank copy of the music, arranged for the hammered dulcimer, allowing you to make any notations or marks that you find helpful. The second version is the transcription of how I have chosen to play the movement.

The range of this movement is D3 to G5. It includes the use of a D#/Eb5 at the top of the bass bridge.

Here is a video of the Prelude from Cello Suite #1 on hammered dulcimer, performed by Robert G.H. Miller. It is the arrangement for a larger sized hammered dulcimer. The two lowest notes are raised an octave in the 15/14 arrangement.
